What are the Benefits of Jojning the FOA

Membership:

Whatever your job or role in the fire and rescue service the Association will represent you. Either on a collective bargaining basis or as an individual.

Membership is open to all people who are emplyed within United Kingdom fire and rescue services. Membership is open to people performing firefighting or support roles.

Subscription rates are determined on the basis of role: -

People in firefighting (or control duties) roles governed by the NJC for Local Authority Fire and Rescue Services (Grey Book) members are allocated to one of the following three groups:

- Firefighter to Watch Manager (or equivalent rank) inclusive
- Station Manager to Brigade Manager (or equivalent rank) inclusive
- People Employed on a Part-time basis

Other members (employed in support roles) will align to the second and third cateories above depending on the number of hours

Retired members are eligible to apply for Associate Membership of the Association. Associate members gives access to representation in relation to matters arising from FRS employment and Insurance Scheme benefits.

Group Insurance Scheme

Arranged by the Association on behalf of all members in conjunction with E.J. Broad (High Street House, 2 High Street, Yeadon, Leeds, LS19 7PP, Tel: 0113 250 7576, Fax: 0113 250 7678).

The package consists of four elements:

1. Accident / Injury
Benefits: On duty accident / injury £35 per week
  Off duty accident / injury £21 per week
  Accidental death
Loss of limb(s) or eye(s)
£20,000
£20,000
Bracket subject to 28 day qualifying period
- for up to 104 weeks
  Total disablement £20,000

2. Sick Pay

Benefits:
£75 per week for a period of 26 weeks commencing on the first week when pay is reduced to half rate under the appropriate Regulations. The benefit ceases after 26 weeks payment or an earlier discharge from the service or return to duty.

3. Travel Insurance (UK and World-wide)

Benefits:
This cover is provided on an annual basis and will apply to the member, member’s spouse and dependent children under 21 years of age if travelling with the member or spouse. Cover is provided for a maximum holiday period of 60 days in any one year commencing 1st january but this may be extended subject to confirmation prior to travel.

4. Family Legal Expenses

Benefits: Cover matters arising from Personal Injury / Consumer Disputes / Home Rights / Taxation / Employment (non fire service) / Legal Defence / Uninsured Loss Recovery and also provides a 24 Hour Legal Help Line for non fire service matters.

This is a complete package of insurances, the total cost to members being £7.95 per month.

Additional Option - Life Insurance

Members of the Group Insurance Scheme are also eligible for low cost life insurance. This is not age related and is available for the member and spouse/partner.

£75,000 cover: £20.00 per month
£50,000 cover : £13.50 per month

Do I have to be in the Group Insurance Scheme to receive representation?

All our members receive employment related representation, legal or otherwise, regardless of whether or not they are in the Group Insurance Scheme.


Death Benefit?

On the death of a full member not in arrears with subscriptions the Association pays the sum of 5.08% of the Station Manager “A” annual basic salary for the preceding twelve months.

On the death of a part-time member not in arrears with subscriptions the Association pays the sum of 1.32% of the Station Manager “A” annual basic salary for the preceding twelve months.
